Véronique Barrillot: The art of quantum painting

Opening - Véronique Barrillot's exhibition

The Genolier Innovation Hub is organizing the opening of Véronique Barrillot's exhibition, on February 12, 2026 from 6.30pm, in the GIH Artistic Zone. (level 0)

The opening will be attended by the artist, as well as by Dr Olivier Rouaud, neurologist at CHUV and Deputy Director of the Leenaards Centre, who will provide a scientific perspective on the exploration of the artist’s brain. On this occasion, you can discover the work Quantique des Quantiques emblematic of Véronique Barrillot's artistic approach, at the crossroads of art, science and innovation.

Véronique Barrillot sees and paints at the same time, two superimposed states, as described by quantum physics. Véronique Barrillot's painting exists only in the eye and movement of the viewer. The viewer's commitment is necessary to decipher the work.

Art and the brain

Far beyond the fashionable trend of art therapy, art on prescription and the effects of museum therapy on well-being and health, Véronique Barrillot is revolutionizing the relationship between the brain and the vision process.

This singular skill has caught the attention of experts at the Lausanne neuroscience department, who are studying her brain imaging. They observed hyperconnectivity of the visual pathways and unusual plasticity in his brain.

The analysis by scientists from Olivier Rouaud's team at CHUV shows that in Véronique Barrillot 's case, "the 'double vision' or 'hybrid work' integrates two visual percepts, one of which is identified by the viewer at close range and the other at a distance. The explanation for this is that one of the percepts is represented mainly by contrasts in high spatial and low temporal frequencies, while the other is represented mainly by contrasts in low spatial and high temporal frequencies."

At this stage, science is unable to say whether Véronique Barrillot 's gift or talent is innate or acquired. In any case, it is undoubtedly rooted in the repetition of the same gesture on canvas, and in the artist's power to decoherence states and images.
